”The Motbok was a booklet handed out by the Swedish state alcohol monopoly in an attempt to curb alcohol consumption, in full force on a national level from 1919 up until 1955. Those fortunate enough to be considered having the social and marital status, gender, and origin respectable enough to receive one, would get each ration declared and stamped in this little pile of papers. It became as much of a status symbol as it did a symbol for the divisions that summoned it into existence. I thought I would have a go at it. Kitchen foil, paper clips, potato stamps, ink and grease on oven burnt paper. Text on the left, image to the right. This is a kitchen sink melodrama. Changing of hands is forbidden.”
