Ellie Wyatt / A Box That Rolls Uphill
A Box That Rolls Uphill is a new collection of experimental writing and images by Ellie Wyatt, responding to an inherited archive of scientific drawings, slides, graphs and objects from the 1950s-70s. Reflecting on and often embodying these materials, A Box That Rolls Uphill explores themes of expertise, opacity, care, legacy and decay in relation to redundant technologies, modes of image-making, and bodily systems.
While rooted in tangible images and objects, the project is also a personal reflection on the production of scientific, artistic and bodily knowledges; slippages in translation between image and object; family traits, pressures and expectations; and intergenerational (mis)communication.
